"I recently found your site and am happy that you have put such a complete set of data online for the public's perusal. It does my heart glad to see that there are people besides myself who feel that the government's increasingly tighter and tighter regulations in all areas (and traffic violations in particular) need to be dealt with in a proactive manner.
¶The exploitation of the public's ignorance is of prime concern to myself, and it is unfortunate that more people don't realize that they have rights and privileges under Canadian law. It seems to me that the government is fostering a certain type of public image and level of awareness in the public which prevents clear thinking and enforces a sheep-like docility. It astounds me that people constantly accept the lies they are spoon-fed by government and large corporations especially and are then led to believe that their sense of right is actually wrong.
¶I wonder if in future, the Canadian public will find itself in the grip of a government that no longer cares whether what it does is right or not. As a member of the computer hacking community, the injustices born of technological paranoia on the part of corporations and government alarm me in their scope and severity.
¶I also find it ironic that on one hand they fear the individual whose expertise lies in technology, and on the other they are using technology to tighten the controls on everyone else. Perhaps this is not ironic, but prophetic--by clamping down on the technologically inclined and increasing their own use of technology, what lies in our future in twenty or even fifty years?
¶Seems like I've gone off on a tangent--sorry, but if you've got this far, thanks for your site. If I use the information to my financial gain I will instantly send off a cheque to you--should it come to that. For now, SENSE has given me peace of mind and for that I thank you again." [Anonymous]
"Sirs: You are doing a a service for the driving public that is unbelievable! A voice of sanity, democracy and driving safety all packed into one site screaming 'No more taxes!' ... I'll get a cheque to you as soon as I can." [Bryan F., Alberta]
"I know I have said it before but I'll say it again. This site is brilliant!!!!! If I was a millionaire I'd give you half of all funds just to see you guys 'go to town' on our so-called government. They must be stopped. But, before that can happen, the citizens need to be made aware of the conspiracy that has brainwashed the majority of the population for so long. It better happen or I'm movin to Montana!!" [Daniel A.]
"Congratulations on an awesome website and an excellent and hard-fought campaign versus our sleazy government. My $20 is in the mail as of today - I'm sick of seeing the government screwing around with licenses to squeeze more money out of us." [Ellen A.]
"Social justice groups like yours deserve support because of the important and necessary function you perform. Because I've been involved in my share of such groups, I understand that it's usually a long dry road and a lot of hard work before public recognition and, better, a correction by whatever-government you're aimed at, is reached. Thanks a lot for all your public-spirited efforts." [Ann T.]
"I just want to say that it is great to see that there is actually some people in this province that have some common sense. I sometimes wonder if it is an endangered species here. [...] The BC gov't and ICBC are using their brains. How else could they conspire to produce this elaborate marketing campaign that actually works on a pathetically large number of people."
"First of all I want to say it's nice to know that a certain few brave individuals have decided to stand up to the power and money hungry government."
"Just a short note to say I support you. As a career police officer (10yrs) and taxpayer, I am frustrated to see police resources continually diverted into the area of speed enforcement, while burglaries and assaults go uninvestigated." [from Ontario]
"Thank you for having such a wonderful website. It has certainly opened my eyes. Coming from my educational background I find the NDP's behavior appalling as they try to shove photoradar down our throats. Even ignoring the Ontario example. They seem intent on adhering to a 'high level' of conduct ie: rhetoric like 'saving lives' blah, blah, blah. Yet, do not have a clue to what the real deal is. Something like SENSE comes along and presents a strong argument against such governmental waste of time and instead of being responsible, the NDP reacts by being more bullheaded and 'sticking' to their guns in order to support their ill-advised venture. In any case, I congratulate the SENSE team for such a great service to our province."
"I wish I had the time and effort to petition against this [SENSE web] page..."
"I.C.B.C has exceeded my personal threshold. I don't have any tickets against my license but I would suspect that it's a question of time... My $20 is in the mail. I'm interested in becoming an active member [...]"
"Thank you for tracking this big brother system and keeping current."
"I spent the last half-hour reading the content on your page. I agree with you completely. [...] Lastly, look for a cheque from me in the mail." [from Pennsylvania!]
"Thank you for having such a wonderful site. If any information I find on your pages helps me 'escape' my ticket, I'll be mailing in a donation for you guys."
"If you speed freaks had some real SENSE you would realize that 'speed kills'. All your crap about photo radar being a big government scan really makes me sick. Let people drive at any speed they want. You'll then be living in an anarchistic state. Grow up and accept some responsiblity for your actions."
"For the last couple of years I have been training new drivers for a large Canadian school. All I can do is shake my head when it comes to what this government is doing. Lots of promises in changes to the liscense procedure and nothing ever happens."
"This is the best page I have bookmarked! In the past you have answered questions for me regarding photo radar. I saw you on Rogers Community Channel and found you very informative, well spoken and very educated. That is why I call upon you again."
"I am one of those 'normal' drivers that has been victimized by this method of grabbing our money. [...] Anyway, I want to resist in any way that I can as I am opposed to to this form of 'taxation'. I know myself reasonably well and am certainly aware of my driving habits. I am not the kind of driver that they are supposed to be targeting and furthermore, I am already overtaxed. I would appreciate any information that you can pass on to me that could throw a 'monkey-wrench' into their system or resist in any way that I can, please let me know."
"I firmly believe the use of photo radar cameras violates a basic right. I, too, am fed up with many governmental tactics. In a perfect world, the government would be able to understand just how far they have alienated the general public. In a perfect world."
"Found your www pages - thanks for them, and for being here and doing the work you're doing. I've downloaded your petition and membership form, will send in the latter and do what I can with the former."
"I want to thank you for maintaining the web site and your public condemnation of photo radar. I can't imagine anything more contrary to our sense of freedom and justice than being put in a position to prove your innocence about a mundane event (driving down the road), which you are notified about weeks or months after the alleged offence (Oh yeah, sure, I remember the particulars of that drive... NOT!). The accused is expected to docilely accept that the equipment is reliable, there are no human errors, there is no incompetance of maliciousness on the part of the officer(s) involved, etc. I could accept a ticket written by an officer at the scene, where I have a reasonable opportunity to recall events and determine whether it is justified."
"Come off it!! If you are too stupid to see that the only way to avoid paying into this 'cash grab' is to stay reasonably close to the posted speed limit then [...] I have not had a speeding ticket in over twenty years mainly due to the fact that I generally stay within 10% of the posted limit."
"I consider myself a law abiding citizen with 17 years of driving under my belt ticket free. I was nabbed in a 40 zone going 54 (ooh I'm dangerous)... Why don't they Just go after the really dangerous offenders."
"I only recently became aware of the SENSE website and am quite impressed with the extent of your work on the issues surrounding photo radar."
"Great website, tons of info..."
"I really enjoyed the information on ur site. Glad to have someone on OUR side. You should have a guest book to display peoples reactions online to it. I think it would be a real PLUS."
"Awesome site! BC must have some of the worst drivers in the world PERIOD!"
"I am forwarding a membership request to your broadway office. Hopefully you will have enough public financial support to be able to keep up the good work."
"I commend you on your pages. you have very useful info, which hopefully more and more people will read and understand."
"This is absolute bullshit and I will fight my tickets with anything you can provide through your site. If everyboby refused to pay these...we may create such a headache for this government they may put an end to this."
"I recently accessed your web page. Very interesting, very informative, very good!"
"I won. Thanks for your help. I'll be sending a $20 donation to SENSE during the holidays."
"Hello! First of all I would like to give you a slap on your back for the good work you've done in trying to eliminate the photo radar van program (PRVP) in BC. Keep it up!!"
"...And this is a great web site, by the way..."
"Once again thank-you for the information and your web page is great. Not only did I browse through it personally, I told many others about it as well. Good luck on SENSE goals, they are well placed."
"Thanks, you have an excellent page, thank god you have concentrated upon presenting information and not fancy graphics."
"How you manage to keep discussing the issue of traffic safety month after month with all the loons sniping at you is beyond me. Thank you for your efforts to bring some rationality to this arena."
